Step three - Shotgun Engraving selection
A Shotgun engraving style is undoubtedly the most personal element of its bespoke features. Boxall and Edmiston pride themselves on giving clients as many options as possible for their weapon and the engraving choices are endless.
Shotgun Engraving Options
Choosing from one of two house styles (with a third on the way); a client has three options for engraving:
- Full scroll - available on all guns
- Scroll with bespoke vignettes - available on Sidelock and Sideplated Boxlock
- Fully bespoke - available on all guns
Whatever option a client chooses they will be sent pictures of their gun throughout the production process, particularly before engraving begins as the transformation is quite incredible.
Production of Bespoke Vignettes
Bespoke Vignettes give a clients gun that extra level of customisation. Past customers have had a favourite dog engraved onto their weapon, the bird they hunt and even a landscape from their local shoot. Whatever the client chooses the Boxall and Edmiston team will transform any picture into a perfect engraving.
It is worth noting that transforming a picture into an engraving is not a simple process and takes weeks of preparation. Drafts of the potential vignette are sent to the client until signed off ready for engraving.
One client requested English Partridges be added to his Vignette. Having worked closely with the client for several months in the production of his weapon the team knew he liked the number “7″ and decided to have seven partridges in the scene. After adding a landscape that looked uncannily like the clients local shoot the customer was extremely pleased and even requested the Vignette be mirrored on the other side of the gun. You can see more pictures of the below gun in the customer gallery.
Completely Customised Engraving
Completely bespoke engraving is an option with a Boxall and Edmiston shotgun but will come at an additional cost. It is worth noting that if the team feel the engraving pattern could be used again (and the client is happy for it to happen) the cost would be negotiable depending on the complexity of the design.
After the gun has been engraved it is sent to a finisher for oiling, some final checks and blacking. Boxall and Edmiston use T. R.
