Step two - wood selection and fitting a shotgun

Once the deposit has been paid a fitting will be arranged at a suitable shooting ground for the client. Another option is for a fitting to be arranged at a local ground to the Boxall and Edmiston factory in Shropshire with wood selection and another opportunity to test the guns incorporated into the visit.

Fitting a shotgun

A fitting involves the shooting of a “try gun” with a trained fitter who notes down all the factors that affect someone’s shot such as master eye and preferred hand. They then take several measurements to ensure the clients new gun will compliment their stance, body and shooting style perfectly. Please watch the video below for more information on the fitting process.

Choice of stock blank

The choice of stock blank is a difficult decision with many aesthetic and personal factors to consider. Some clients love a deep dark grain, others prefer light shades with little marbling.

Walnut stock blank

Whatever the customer preference the team will find the perfect piece of Walnut for a clients gun. With over fifty pieces in stock at the factory, finding a clients perfect piece is normally fairly straight forward. If a client has something specific in mind, perhaps a similar piece to another gun they own, Boxall and Edmiston have several stock blank suppliers and finding the perfect stock is always possible.

There are several ways a client can choose their wood. The Boxall and Edmiston website has a wood gallery for both singles and pairs of blanks. The galleries are updated regularly and always show the full selection. Alternatively, a client can visit the team at the factory and choose the wood in person or, as a recent client did, visit the team at a game fair to choose their stock.
